FTC to Convene Scams Against Older Adults Advisory Group

On September 12, 2022, the FTC announced that it will conduct its first meeting with the newly formed Scams Against Older Adults Advisory Group on September 29, 2022 together with the representatives from federal and state government agencies, and from industry and consumer advocates. The advisory group was created as part of the Stop Senior Scams Act passed in March of this year.

The advisory group, led by the FTC, will tackle the following four topics during the meeting:

  • Expanding consumer education efforts;

  • Improving industry training on scam prevention;

  • Identifying innovative or high-tech methods to detect and stop scams; and

  • Developing research on consumer or employee engagement to reduce fraud. 

The meeting, which  will take place on Sept. 29 at 2:30 p.m. ET,  will be livestreamed at ftc.gov.
